Y’all my husband absolutely LOVES ice cream. He travels a lot for work and on one of his trips he ate dinner at Gibson’s in Chicago. For dessert he had the Macadamia Turtle Ice Cream Pie and came home raving about how good it was. After that day my husband’s Ice Cream Bomb was born and has been evolving ever since.
Ingredients & Tools Needed:
Large Round Bowl (mold the ice cream bomb in)
Mixing bowl
Mallet (or large glass to mash Oreos)
Wax or Parchment Paper
2 Containers of Ice Cream (We like Vanilla Bean & Chocolate Chip)
2 packs of Oreos
Butter (2 Stick melted)
Reese’s (The holiday are the best)
First you want to crush your Oreos. Place them all in a mixing bowl and mash them with a mallet or back of a glass. Once they are mashed add the melted butter and mix with the mashed Oreos.
Next you want to line your large bowl with wax paper. The size of the bowl will determine how big the Ice Cream Bomb will be. This wax paper makes it easier to pull the ice cream bomb once frozen. Add half of the Oreos and mold them to the rounded shape of the bowl.
Now is the time to add the first flavor of the ice cream. Really push that ice cream into the bowl and Oreos. After we have the first layer of Oreos and ice cream, we add the crushed Reese’s. We crush these with our hands over the ice cream and use one whole bag of holiday Reese’s. Next we add the second flavor of ice cream. Make sure it is pushed down into the Reese’s and molded to the bowl.
Last step is to add the rest of the Oreo’s and butter on top of the second layer of ice cream. Cover with Saran Wrap or Foil and place in the freezer overnight. When you are ready to serve you want to take the Saran Wrap off and place the open part of the bowl onto a plate and allow the Ice Cream Bomb to fall out of the bowl. Remove the wax paper and you have a yummy Ice Cream Bomb ready to serve to guests.
